Amazon has announced plans to invest more than $100 million in a new 585,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in Greenwood, Indiana, expected to open by 2028 and create 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs. The plant will produce equipment that powers Amazon's fulfillment and robotics network across North America, doubling the company's US robotics manufacturing capacity alongside its existing operation in Massachusetts, where it has built more than one million robots to date. Those robots are deployed across more than 300 facilities worldwide and assist employees with 75% of all customer orders the company delivers. The Greenwood site will integrate advanced fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating and assembly under one roof, supported by AWS cloud services and AI-powered smart manufacturing systems. Products made there will be used in Amazon fulfillment centers across North America. The investment follows an August announcement of a new robotics manufacturing investment in Texas as Amazon expands its domestic manufacturing footprint. The company has also been investing in robotics beyond the warehouse, including its acquisition earlier this year of RIVR, a developer of quadruped wheeled robots for delivery operations. Amazon said it selected Indiana for its manufacturing workforce, competitive cost structure, logistics infrastructure and business-friendly environment.
